Before You Apply

Please check if the item can be funded through NDIS or other services first. Variety supports children who have no other options available.

You may be eligible if:

Your child is aged 0–18 years, living in Tasmania and Your child is sick, living with disability, or experiencing disadvantage

Documents Required To Apply

Don’t worry — most families already have these documents available.

A medical letter

A letter from your child’s GP or paediatrician explaining their diagnosis.

It must be dated within the last 3 months.

A therapist letter

A letter from a therapist or allied health professional explaining:

• Why the item will help
• If your child has trialled it
(if relevant)

It must be dated within the last 3 months.

Proof of household income

Recent documents
(within 3 months):

• 3 recent payslips, and/or
• A Centrelink statement

If self-employed: your latest tax return or Notice of Assessment.

Two quotes for the item

• From two suppliers
• Less than 2 months old
• Must include GST and delivery costs

How the Application Process Works

Our team reviews your application carefully and confidentially.
Outcome in 4–6 weeks. 12 months to use the grant

Assessment

Our team reviews it to make sure it meets the guidelines. If eligible, it is carefully considered by our grants committee.

Outcome

We will explain the next steps via email. If approved, we will organise payment directly to the supplier.

No. If approved, Variety pays the supplier directly.

Variety offer grants to both individuals, organisations and communities to help children when others can’t. We support organisations, kids and their families challenged by disability or chronic illness, geographic isolation and suffering financial hardship.

Applicants must be: Aged 0 and 18 years; and Residents of SA, but it is not necessary to have Australian citizenship.

An application must meet all eligibility requirements. In addition to reviewing each applicant based on their merit, we also look for the following: Clear, concise information. Define exactly what the child or organisation requires and why. Correct legible attachments. Support letters from an appropriate professional person that directly discusses and focuses on what the child’s or organisations needs are. If the application is not clear and/or doesn’t include requested information or attachments, it may be declined.
